Chile seeds can sometimes be a little challenging to germinate. Some show themselves in a week ,others such as some super hots could be 21+ days. A lot of time and effort will be exhausted during germination to transplanting outdoors. Also in Canada, we can't just wait a month and start over. Therefore we need to give ourselves the proper tools for the job. For starters we need to give ourselves 8-10 weeks from seed to transplant outdoors. I begin my process with an over night soak in a weak solution of Chamomile Tea. Chamomile tea contains tannins, which can promote seed germination by softening seed casings. Soaking seeds in chamomile tea will also help prevent damping off. To use chamomile tea for seed germination, brew a cup or two of weak tea, then allow the tea to cool until it feels slightly warm to the touch. Place the water in a bowl, then add the seeds and leave them until they begin to swell – generally eight to 12 hours. For starting seeds I use a seed starting mix. Airey and very light it does its job well, however it contains very little if any nutrients. Lucky for us the seedling will have enough food for itself for a couple weeks. Always premoisten the soil before planting, not dripping wet. .Keep the soil moist by using a mister. Overwatering is as bad as underwatering. Heat mats and a thermostat are a must for my situation. my friend just puts his in a south facing window and he does fine. you don't need a heat mat and thermostat but I would recommend it. My go to Temperature is 28C - 83F. A small variance from this is just fine, but 60F - 15.5 Celsius you'll get near nothing to germinate. On the other hand, over 33C - 92F. Germination lowers. A thermostat does the job so you don't need to worry about it. Finally use a humidity dome, the two things seeds need are heat and moisture. Leave the top flap 1/2 open or as I do remove the dome and let some fresh air in so I can keep an eye on the moisture.
